Lake Bullen Merri

Freshwater fishers will soon have better access to one of Victoria’s iconic crater lakes with funding for significant upgrades to boating facilities at Lake Bullen Merri.

The 2021/22 State Budget has committed up to $2.5 million to overhaul the boat ramp on the southern shore of Lake Bullen Merri, near Camperdown.

Minister for Fishing and Boating Melissa Horne recently visited the site and met with users and local council representatives to dicuss potential upgrades at the popular South Beach ramp.

The works will include a centrally-located pontoon, new concrete ramps, an improved turning circle, and an underwater retaining wall to minimise future impacts of sedimentation.

Lake Bullen Merri is a popular fishing location with a variety of trout on offer, and is one of two locations in Victoria stocked with Chinook salmon by the Victorian Fisheries Authority.

Works will be progressed by the Corangamite Shire Council in conjunction with the South Beach Foreshore Committee of Management.
