Accessing western Port Phillip will be made easier with construction nearing for boating upgrades at Kirk Point boat ramp.
The ramp is one of three in the Geelong area getting better facilities to make launching and retrieving boats a stress-free experience.
Kirk Point is a single-lane ramp located east of Avalon Airport in The Spit Wildlife Reserve.
The existing ramp is exposed and does not feature a pontoon or jetty to allow for boats to be tied up, limiting capacity.
Construction works for the Kirk Point upgrade have commenced, with contractors establishing the site on May 15. Access to the boat ramp is closed to the public until Spring while upgrade works occur.
To find nearby places to launch, open or download the FREE Boating Vic app or online at www.boating.vic.gov.au
Regular updates on project progress will be provided here. For more information, please refer to the project flyer which can be accessed by clicking here.
The area is popular with fishers as well as bird watchers within the adjoining wildlife reserve who use the facility for parking.
Parking is a mix of formal and informal parking.
Kirk Point is located close to the offshore Wilson’s Reef rocky reef module.
Construction is underway. More information is available here.
