Construction is well underway for a new boat ramp on Lake Eildon at Howqua Inlet.
Better Boating Victoria, in partnership with Goulburn Murray Water and Mansfield Shire Council, is constructing a new public boat ramp at Howqua Inlet on Lake Eildon. Located just east of the Howqua Inlet township, the new boat ramp will provide an important additional access point to Lake Eildon. The nearest existing ramps are currently at Goughs Bay and Jamieson, both approximately 30 minutes away by boat.
The new ramp will provide an additional option for launching and retrieving vessels when Lake Eildon water levels are between 78 per cent and 100 per cent. The new project will also deliver 18 car-trailer parks and a vehicle turning apron to make reversing your trailer much easier.
Construction is occurring now, while Lake Eildon water levels remain low, which means works can be safely and efficiently undertaken with reduced risk of inundation. This helps to minimise the need for extensive temporary works such as avoiding costly cofferdams.
What’s happening now?
Construction of the Howqua Inlet boat ramp commenced on Monday 13 April 2026, with Better Boating Victoria working closely with Goulburn Murray Water and Mansfield Shire Council to deliver the project.
The new ramp and vehicle turning area has now been completed and Construction has paused onsite to allow Goulburn Murray Water work crews to conduct essential channel maintenance works in the non-irrigation period over winter. Work crews will re-mobilise in early Spring to complete construction of the car-trailer park and driveway entry off Mansfield-Woods Point Road.
