Howqua Inlet

As part of the Victorian Government’s ongoing investment into making it cheaper and easier to get out on the water, Howqua Inlet has been identified for a future new ramp.

Located just East of the Howqua Inlet township, the Howqua Inlet boat ramp will provide an important new access point into Lake Eildon as there is currently no public boating access between Goughs Bay and Jamieson.

This new ramp will provide recreational boaters access to the lake between 78%-100% Water Supply Level.

What’s been happening?

Mansfield Shire Council undertook community consultation and engagement to determine to best location for a ramp upgrade/new ramp creation. The results lead to the decision to create a high water supply level ramp near the town of Howqua Inlet.

Designs were progressed and released to the public in September 2023, with an online survey for stakeholders to provide input. The concept design includes 19 formalized car-trailer parking spots, a two lane concrete ramp, grass overflow parking area, mooring cleats built into the ramp and a vehicle turn around area. Better Boating Victoria has engaged experienced marine engineers to progress these concept designs taking into account the feedback from the survey, into the detailed design phase and are currently working through obtaining approvals.

What’s happening next?

Once the detailed design phase is completed, Better Boating Victoria will work with Goulburn Murray Water to progress works. Construction is expected to begin in 2025 subject to water levels.
