The Red Cliffs Horseshoe Bend Boat Ramp is being upgraded to make accessing the Murray River in the Mildura area safer and easier.
Better Boating Victoria has worked with Parks Victoria to finalise designs and gain all necessary permits and approvals for the upgrade of the Horseshoe Bend ramp.
Water Excavations has been engaged to undertake the construction of the project which is expected to run from February-April 2025.
Project Background
The ramp is located along the Murray River near Red Cliffs, south of Mildura. The facility consists of a single lane concrete ramp which is currently is a state of disrepair. The ramp was identified in the Victorian Recreational Boating Strategy as a site in high need of upgrade.

What’s happened so far?
Engineering firm Confluence were engaged to create the detailed design for the ramp. The design has now been completed and a contractor engaged to complete the construction. All required permits and approvals have been received from Mildura City Council, Wentworth Shire Council (NSW) and Traditional Owners – First Peoples of the Millewa Mallee Aboriginal Corporation.
Why is the Red Cliffs Horseshoe Bend boat Ramp being upgraded?
The surface of the current ramp is poor and requires steeper incline to assist users with ease of launching and retrieving as well as safety.

The project involves the upgrade of the ramp by means of replacing and improving the existing ramp. The upgrade will improve usability, functionality and safety.

Better Boating Victoria has delivered the detailed design and approval stage of this project in consultation with Parks Victoria.
Parks Victoria is the land manager and will oversee the project management and construction.

How many boats can launch at once?
The facility will allow for the launching and retrieval of 1 vessel at any one time.
