Cannons Creek

The team from Better Boating Victoria (BBV) as a part of the Victorian Fisheries Authority, is working with the Cannons Creek Foreshore Committee of Management and local boaters on plans for an upgrade to the boat ramp and supporting facilities.

In early 2022 Better Boating Victoria engaged engineers to work on a concept plan for a future upgrade to the boat ramp as part of the state’s biggest ever boat ramp construction program, underpinned by the Victorian Recreational Boating Strategy.

The ramp is primarily used by residents for recreational boating and fishing, and it provides access to the Rutherford Inlet as well as north-western Western Port. The ramp currently is only useable at high tide and there is no holding structure, whilst parking is also very limited.

The upgrades to the Cannons Creek boat ramp may include:

  • A new concrete ramp, extending 25m further into Rutherford Inlet to create additional launching and retrieval time
  • New integrated walkway and approach
  • A new concrete and rock shoulder to help with erosion
  • A new holding structure with tie up points for up to two vessels at a time

What’s Happening Next?

BBV is in the process of going out to the market for a qualified consultant to prepare the detailed design, approvals and construction ready documentation.
