Rhyll

The Rhyll boating facility is getting an upgrade thanks to the State Government’s unprecedented investment in boating in Victoria.

Located on Phillip Island, Rhyll is popular with boaters and anglers who want to access the rich fishing and recreational water opportunities of Western Port.

AW Maritime, a specialist port and coastal engineering firm, have been engaged to develop concept designs that aim to improve the facility.

Better Boating Victoria is overseeing the government’s boating commitments and will work with Bass Coast Shire Council and the boating community on the Rhyll boating facility upgrade.

Community input is critical to the project’s success and delivering an improved facility that meets the needs of local and visiting boaters and anglers. That’s why we have involved the community in this project from the outset.

On 22 November 2019 we hosted a community consultation event in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council, Maritime Safety Victoria and the Victorian Fisheries Authority at the Rhyll boat ramp for people to see three draft concept designs and find out more about the upgrade.

We also hosted an online consultation for people who couldn’t get along to our event to provide feedback on the draft concept designs. This consultation ran from Friday 22 November to Friday 6 December.

We have used the significant feedback we got during consultation to inform a final concept design that proposes to improve the Rhyll boat ramp.

The final concept design can be viewed here.

Next steps:

We will be working with Bass Coast Shire Council to progress a detailed design and secure the necessary approvals throughout the rest of 2020. This will include an investigation of environmental and heritage impacts. At this stage, we’re aiming to begin construction next year in the off-peak boating season between May and October 2021.

We will provide updates on the progress of this upgrade as it becomes available.
