Rhyll – Stage 1

The Rhyll boating facility is getting an upgrade thanks to the State Government’s unprecedented investment in boating in Victoria.

Project update: Monday, 6 September

Construction is continuing on upgrades to the Rhyll boating facility.

Bass Coast Shire Council has awarded the contract to Simpsons Contractors, who began work in July.

The western side of the car park has been upgraded already and ramps have been reopened in time for the busy Spring/Summer period.

Works will continue through 2021-22 on a separate project to reconstruct the damaged seawall on the eastern side of the site which will likely see reduced car parking capacity during this time.

The ramp will then close again after summer to progress the new ramp, jetties and pontoons.

For more information on the ramp and nearby spots to launch, head to the Boating Vic website or app.

Located on Phillip Island, Rhyll is popular with boaters and anglers who want to access the rich fishing and recreational water opportunities of Western Port.

Better Boating Victoria is working with Bass Coast Shire Council and the boating community on the Rhyll boating facility upgrade.

Community input is critical to the project’s success and delivering an improved facility that meets the needs of local and visiting boaters and anglers. That’s why we have involved the community in this project from the outset.

On 22 November 2019 we hosted a community consultation event in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council, Maritime Safety Victoria and the Victorian Fisheries Authority at the Rhyll boat ramp for people to see three draft concept designs and find out more about the upgrade.

We also hosted an online consultation for people who couldn’t get along to our event to provide feedback on the draft concept designs. This consultation ran from Friday 22 November to Friday 6 December.

We have used the significant feedback we got during consultation to inform a final concept design that proposes to improve the Rhyll boat ramp.

The final concept design can be viewed at Bass Coast Shire council’s website.
