| Boorhaman North is located on the upper reaches of the Ovens River, south of the point where the Ovens River first flows into the Murray River. Set within a State Forest, the Boorhaman North Recreation Reserve offers visitors access to boating, bushwalking and nature appreciation in a scenic riverine environment.
The reserve includes picnic facilities, with barbeques, toilets, and designated parking areas available for day use. It is a popular access point for those seeking to experience this section of the Ovens River. Strategic River AccessBoorhaman North is located approximately 9.3 kilometres by road from the nearest formal boating facility to the north. To the south, there are no boating facilities until Wangaratta, around 30 kilometres away. This makes Boorhaman North a critical access point, opening up substantial stretches of the Ovens River for recreational boating that would otherwise be difficult or unsafe to reach. Proposed Upgrade WorksThe proposed upgrade at Boorhaman North aims to improve safety, accessibility and navigability on this section of the river and includes: · Construction of a new articulated concrete matting boat ramp · Removal of the existing failed ramp · Removal of a failed jetty, which is currently creating a navigational hazard · These improvements will enhance boating access while supporting safe and sustainable recreational use of the Ovens River |
