Queensciff – Stage 2

The Queenscliff boating facility is being upgraded thanks to the State Government’s unprecedented investment in boating in Victoria.

Queenscliff Boat Ramp is located on the Bellarine Peninsula and is a popular year-round facility for boaters and fishers who want to access the wonderful recreational opportunities in Port Phillip, Corio Bay and offshore.

Better Boating Victoria is overseeing the government’s boating commitments and is working with the Borough of Queenscliffe, local community groups, and the boating community to upgrade the facility.

The upgrade is being undertaken in two stages, Stage 1 was completed in 2021 and Stage 2 will begin in early 2022. The final concept can be viewed here.

Stage 1 of the upgrade was completed in late November 2021 and involved formalising the overflow car park to add 33 car-trailer parks.

The work also included dredging the area surrounding the boat ramp to improve access for boaters at low tide.

Stage 2 works will include the construction of a third boat ramp lane and floating pontoon to make it quicker and easier to launch or retrieve your boat. Delivered in partnership with Borough of Queenscliffe, the second stage works will also include replacement and extension of the existing floating pontoons to improve berthing capacity.

Additional dedicated extra-large parking spaces will also be included in the existing car park as well as installation of a kayak launch ramp to separate powered and non-powered craft.

The designs for all marine works were prepared by AW Maritime, specialist maritime engineers. As part of the design, consideration was given to the size of vessels, increasing demand for the ramp, and long-term impacts of sea level rise.

Community input has been critical to the project and has informed delivery of an improved facility that meets the needs of local and visiting boaters. That’s why we have involved the community in this project from the outset.

Extensive consultation with community members and local user groups has been undertaken with numerous Bellarine-based fishing and boating clubs, Queenscliff Community Association, Point Lonsdale Civic Association and government agencies.

We’ll be hosting a community drop-in session in late February 2022 to provide further opportunity to learn more about Stage 2 works. More information will be made available on this in early 2022.

At this stage BBV and Borough of Queenscliff can advise the following

  • Construction for Stage 2 works is scheduled to begin in Mid-March 2022, timed to occur outside the peak boating season to limit disruption to boaters.
  • Construction is estimated to take between 14 and 16 weeks with full closure of the boat ramp expected. More information will be made available on dates of construction and impact on boat ramp use in January 2022.
