Lake Burrumbeet

Works to upgrade the Lake Burrumbeet Canico Drive Boat Ramp are underway, thanks to a $300,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Better Boating Fund.

The City of Ballarat, in partnership with the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s Better Boating division, developed plans to upgrade the existing facility located off Canico Drive on the lake’s southern shoreline.

An upgraded two-lane concrete ramp opened in October 2023, adding an extra lane and featuring a steeper gradient so trailers don’t run the risk of backing in too far. Non-slip herringbone concrete panels were also installed at the toe of the ramp.

The City of Ballarat has worked with the Lake Burrumbeet boat club to confirm the exact location of the new floating pontoon, which will provide boaters with temporary tie-up spots.

The new floating pontoon, which has been pre-fabricated, is expected to be installed in early 2025, pending completion of the design of the piling structure.

Lake Burrumbeet is popular among fishers targeting stocked trout as well as skiers and families making memories in the great outdoors by towing a donut or simply going for a cruise.

The access improvements at Lake Burrumbeet will complement recent fish stocking – the VFA have stocked over 30,000 brown and rainbow trout into Lake Burrumbeet since 2020, making it a prime destination for those looking to wet a line!

Project Highlights:

  • Provision of a new dual lane concrete boat ramp
  • Installation of a new floating pontoon to provide a structure so boaters can tie up
