As part of the Victorian Government’s ongoing investment into making it cheaper and easier to get out on the water, work is continuing to improve boating access to Blue Rock Lake.
A new pontoon is being installed which will make boating more accessible. The project is funded by the reinvestment of boating licence registration fees through the Better Boating Fund.
Piles for the new pontoon have been driven, and contractors are monitoring water levels before installing the new structure is floated onto the piles.
The Blue Rock Lake boat launching facility off Old Tanjil Road is partially closed with construction works having kicked off. Boaters can launch at the Spillway Road ramp without disruption while work is on the go.
The ramp comprises a single deep water stone ramp that gives access to the lake at a range of water levels. The works will deliver a new all abilities access gangway and pontoon and are expected to be complete in spring.
The new pontoon will add to the existing infrastructure which, together with the ramp, includes an asphalt square above the ramp that acts as a vehicle turn-around area, and 3 allocated car/trailer parks.
Blue Rock Lake is located in West Gippsland at the base of the Great Dividing Range within the Baw Baw Shire Council.
It is a popular fishing destination that has been stocked with over 200,000 fish in 2024 alone, comprising of rainbow and brown trout as well as Australian bass. It is increasingly popular as a bass fishing destination and holds national competitions for the hard-fighting native sportsfish.
