An upgrade worth up to $2.5 million for better boating facilities at Lake Bullen Merri is a step closer with a tender for the boat ramp upgrade awarded to Bridgewater Marine.
The improvements to the south beach boat ramp at Lake Bullen Merri have been funded through the 2021/22 Victorian Budget as part of the Victorian Government’s unprecedented investment to improve recreational boating in Victoria.
Better Boating Victoria has progressed concept designs for the project and has already made launching and parking at Victorian boat ramps free, established the Better Boating Fund and is progressing the biggest boat ramp construction program in Victoria’s history.
Corangamite Shire Council recently decided on Bridgewater Marine Australia as the preferred contractor for the project following a competitive tender process.
The works will include a centrally-located pontoon, new concrete ramps and an underwater retaining wall to minimise any future impacts of sedimentation.
Lake Bullen Merri is a popular fishing location with a variety of trout on offer and is one of two locations in Victoria stocked with Chinook salmon by the Victorian Fisheries Authority.
Works will be progressed by the Council in conjunction with the South Beach Foreshore Committee of Management and are expected to begin in February 2022 after the busy summer holiday period.
We’re committed to improving the boating experience across Victoria.
