Rye Pier Upgrade To Boost Boating

Boaters, fishers and other recreational water users can look forward to better access at Rye Pier thanks to funding pledged to upgrade the low-landing and install a new access ramp at the facility.

Today the Victorian Government announced it will invest $500,000 to restore the existing low-landing and build a new ramp to provide all-abilities access.

More casual public berths will be installed and berthing facilities for larger commercial fishing charter operators will also be upgraded.

The funding is being provided through the Better Recreational Facilities initiative.

The new low-landing will make it easier for all water users to enjoy the rich marine life and calm waters off Rye Pier that offer such great recreational opportunities.

The recently upgraded boat ramp, kids’ playground and numerous shops and eateries make Rye a popular destination with tens of thousands of Victorians keen to soak up sun, sand and sea.

The government believes the new upgrade will allow the pier to provide safe access and delivers on its promise to provide additional berths for recreational boaters in Port Phillip.

It comes as the Victorian Government has committed to establishing the Better Boating Fund, which will collect funds from boat registration and marine licenses to use exclusively for boating facility and safety initiatives, as well as providing new casual berths in Port Phillip.

The government has also committed to upgrading the Hastings boat ramp facility as well as scrapping launching and parking fees, and is currently engaging with the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to progress these important initiatives.
