The Point Richards boating facility is getting an upgrade thanks to the State Government’s unprecedented investment in boating in Victoria.
Point Richards is located on the Bellarine Peninsula and is popular with boaters and anglers who want to access the wonderful fishing and recreational water opportunities in Port Phillip.
We are proposing to upgrade the boating facility in two stages, starting with the car park.
For the car park upgrade, Thompson Berrill Landscape Design (TBLD), a specialist landscape architecture and engineering firm, have been engaged to develop concept designs that will deliver more parking, better traffic flow and improved pedestrian safety.
Better Boating Victoria is overseeing the government’s boating commitments and will work with Bellarine Bayside Coastal Management, local community groups, local residents and the boating community to upgrade the Point Richards boating facility.
Community input is critical to the success of the project and delivering an improved facility that meets the needs of local and visiting boaters and anglers.
On Saturday 30 November we hosted a community consultation event in partnership with Maritime Safety Victoria and the Victorian Fisheries Authority at the Point Richards boat ramp for people to see two draft concept designs and find out more about the upgrade.
We also hosted an online consultation for people who couldn’t get along to our event to provide feedback on the draft concept designs. This consultation ran from Saturday 30 November to Monday 9 December.
We have used the feedback we received during consultation to inform a final concept design that will be used as the basis for the future upgrade.
The final concept can be viewed here.
We are running a separate process in 2020 to address changes to the marine side infrastructure based on the results of a coastal processes study undertaken to better understand the issues associated with the seagrass build up currently impacting the ramp.
This study has been completed and we ran an online information session on the 11 August 2020 to share the results and the proposed concept design developed to improve the boat ramp and minimise the maintenance requirements in the future. A summary of this study and the proposed concept can be viewed HERE. We will release more information about next steps in upgrading the marine side infrastructure at Point Richards soon.
